Online Therapy in Texas

Secure Video Therapy, Wherever You Are in Texas

I’m Venus Rouhani, LMFT-S, LPC-S, and I offer online therapy for individuals and families anywhere in Texas. We meet by secure video, so you can talk with a licensed therapist from home, your office or wherever you have privacy. The work is the same as in my Austin office: practical tools, honest conversation and a steady, nonjudgmental space to sort through what’s weighing on you.

Whether you live in Houston, El Paso or a small town far from the nearest therapist, online sessions make it possible to get help without the drive.

Get support for life’s challenges without leaving home. If you’re not sure online therapy is right for you or have any questions, call me for a free 20-minute phone consultation at (512) 815-2828.

Is Online Therapy a Good Fit for You?

Online therapy works well for many of the people I see. It may suit you if:

  • You live outside the Austin area and don’t have a therapist nearby who fits what you need.
  • Your schedule is packed. No commute means a session can fit into a lunch break or after the kids are in bed.
  • You work unusual hours or travel often, so regular office appointments are hard to keep.
  • You’d rather talk from home, where it can be easier to open up.
  • Getting to an office is hard, because of health, mobility or caregiving.

Online therapy isn’t the right setting for an emergency. If you’re in crisis, please call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911.

Individual and Family Therapy Online

Individual therapy. If you’re dealing with anxiety, stress, a hard life change or a pattern you keep repeating, we can work on it together by video. I focus on what’s affecting your life right now and on practical skills you can use between sessions. More on my Individual Therapy page.

Family therapy. Families can meet with me online too, which helps when family members live in different parts of Texas or have schedules that never line up. We work on communication, conflict and parenting stress. More on my Family Therapy & Parenting page.

Couples counseling. If you and your partner are looking for help, let’s start with the free phone consultation. We’ll talk about what’s going on and decide together whether sessions at my Austin office, online sessions or a mix of both will work best. You can read about my approach on my Marriage & Couples Therapy page. If an affair or a breach of trust is part of what you’re facing, my Infidelity Counseling page explains how I help couples work through it and rebuild trust.

How Online Sessions Work

  1. Start with a free phone call. We talk for 20 minutes about what’s going on and whether working together makes sense.
  2. Get your link. Before your first session, you’ll receive intake forms and a secure Zoom link. There’s nothing complicated to set up.
  3. Find a private spot. Choose a quiet room where you won’t be overheard. Headphones help, especially in a shared home. A phone works, but a laptop or tablet is easier when more than one person joins.
  4. Meet at your scheduled time. Click the link a few minutes early so you can settle in, and we’ll begin.

Is Online Therapy as Effective as In-Person Therapy?

For most people, yes. A 2021 review of dozens of studies found that therapy by live video worked about as well as therapy in an office. A 2023 review of 20 randomized trials, the most rigorous kind of study, reached the same conclusion for depression, anxiety and PTSD, and found similar levels of client satisfaction too.

What matters most is the same either way: a good fit with your therapist and showing up consistently. If you’d simply feel more comfortable in the room, you’re welcome to see me at my Austin office instead.

Fees and Insurance

Session fees vary by session type and length, with individual, couples, family, and extended sessions priced according to the time scheduled for each appointment. You’ll find my fee, insurance and payment policies on my Contact page, and I’m happy to go over them during your free phone consultation.

I don’t accept insurance assignments, but I can provide the paperwork you need to request out-of-network reimbursement. Before you start, I suggest calling your insurance carrier to check your mental health benefits, including coverage for telehealth sessions.

Serving All of Texas, With an Austin Office Too

I see clients online from across the state, from Dallas–Fort Worth and Houston to San Antonio, the Rio Grande Valley and West Texas. If you live in or near Austin, you can also choose in-person sessions at my office near West Lake Hills, or mix the two: in person when you can, online when life gets busy.
